The Chicago Sky were excited to unleash rookie Camilla Cardoso for her first WNBA game on Saturday against the Indiana Fever. Cardoso's first game, and Caitlin Clark's first game against Angel Reese in the W, were expected to be the main storylines of this contest. However, the main storyline following the game quickly became about a hard foul Sky guard Chennedy Carter laid on Caitlin Clark in the third quarter.

Towards the end of the quarter, Carter committed a hard foul on Clark, shoulder checking her onto the ground after a verbal exchange.

Carter took to social media to fire back at all of the hate coming her way following the call.

“I grew up with all brothers all we did is fight and argue,” Carter wrote on social media. “I love the hate more than the love what don't y'all understand. I'd rather you hate me [than] love me and I mean that on my dead aunt.”

Some fans on pointed out on social media that earlier, Clark appeared to shove Carter in the back. The two appeared to share words after that incident as well, leading up to the shoulder check.

Regardless, Carter was unwilling to talk about the incident following the game.

“I ain’t answering no Caitlin Clark questions,” Carter said, via Dylan Svoboda of the New York Post. “I don’t know what she said. I didn’t say anything.”

Clark brushed off the foul in a post-game interview, but she did share that she didn't think it was warranted.

“Yeah, that’s just not a basketball play,” Clark said. “But you know I’ve gotta play through it, that’s what basketball is about at this level. I thought we’ve been really physical, we’ve missed some bunnies around the rim, so hopefully those fall in the fourth.”

The Chicago Sky lost a close game against the Indiana Fever on Saturday 71-70. It was the first game in the Commissioner's Cup for the WNBA.

Chicago held the sky to only 2-of-12 from the three-point line, their lowest rate of the season. The Sky's stout defense on Saturday helped keep them in the game until the very end. Chicago ended the game on a 12-3 run, but they couldn't come all the way back.

Chennedy Carter led the Sky in points coming off the bench. She finished with 19 points, four rebounds, and six assists, whereas Caitlin Clark finished with 11 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.

Angel Reese only added eight points, but had a career-best 13 rebounds. Cardoso logged 11 points and six rebounds in her WNBA debut.

“First game back and she played pretty well, too,” Carter said on Cardoso's first WNBA game. “She hasn't been in this position, closing the game, so let's give her some time.”

The Sky play their next game on Tuesday night against the New York Liberty. Chicago will have to wait for June 16th for another shot at the Indiana Fever.
