The U.S. Men's National Team hosted Honduras Wednesday night in a pivotal World Cup Qualifier. Entering the match, the USMNT were tied with Mexico in the CONCACAF Standings with 18 points through 10 matches. The U.S. currently owned the tie-breaker via goal differential. However, both countries still trailed Canada, who had 22 points for the top spot.

After Sunday's disappointing loss at Canada, 2-nil, USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter decided to make some serious changes to the starting squad. Those changes included taking the team's best player, Christian Pulisic, off the pitch to begin the game.

That move sounds controversial enough. Equally controversial is where and when this game took place. The game was played in St. Pau, Minnesota. The temperature at the time of kickoff was under negative 10 degrees Farenheit. With wind chill, it felt below zero.

That makes Wednesday's match the coldest in U.S. Men's National Team history playing at home. The previous record was from 2001 in Columbus, Ohio.

Despite the frigid temperatures, the changes made by Berhalter appeared to have a warming effect.

The USMNT cruised to a 3-nil victory. Pulisic came off the bench to find the back of the net in the 67th minute. The United States dominated play, earning 16 shots to only two for Honduras.

With the win, the U.S. Men's National Team temporarily pulls within one point of Canada. The friendly neighbors to the north square off against El Salvador Wednesday night as well. Meanwhile, Mexico kicks off against Panama.

Berhalter seems to be pulling the right strings. The USMNT look to get back into the World Cup after not qualifying in 2018.
