Kim “cvMax” Dae-ho, former Griffin coach, has received a five-month suspension from the South Korean Esports Fairness Committee. In a report by Korizon's Ashley Kang, the committee investigated cvMax at the behest of Riot Korea. cvMax allegedly quarreled aggressively with members of the Griffin roster. Yelling at teammates is just a normal part of solo queue but it has no place in the professional scene.

No place for Toxicity

cvMax transferred to DRX's head coach position after leaving Griffin. However, DRX needs to find a replacement for its coach until the suspension is lifted in May of 2021. DRX management is exhausting all possible actions regarding the disciplinary action before they head into the 2021 season. The organization promised its fans that it will focus on moving forward.

The committee stated that the verdict was in no way related to the police report filed against the head coach by former Griffin Top Laner Choi “Sword” Sung-won. In all seriousness, it's alarming that an alleged case of physical or verbal abuse took over one year before a resolution was made. Hopefully, these cases gain more recognition due to cvMax's suspension. Players need to have a safe space to build their talents. The committee had this to say about a coach's role in a pro team.

“The head coach of a pro esports team has to direct and manage a team. He has the responsibility to lead and respect the players, who are mostly minors, so that they can cultivate their personalities in a positive direction.”

As it stands, DRX is without a head coach as the 2021 season looms near. Regardless of their feelings regarding the decision, the organization needs to find a replacement for cvMax urgently. This will also serve as a wake-up call for management staff to always treat their players with respect.
