A recent report suggested that consensus No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming draft, Zion Williamson, is being eyed as a potential addition to the Team USA roster for the upcoming FIBA World Cup.

When asked about the rumor, San Antonio Spurs and Team USA head coach Gregg Popovich refused to add fuel to the flame, opting not to provide any comment on the issue:

“There’s been no USA outreach or selection or anything like that,” he said, via ESPN's Michael C. Wright. “That process is going to happen pretty quickly because the end of the year is coming, and we’ll have to figure out who’s on the team, who’s going to play, and who’s not gonna play. But I don’t have any comments about any individuals.”

This year's edition of the World Cup, which will be held in China, is set to commence on Aug. 31. As Popovich noted, there will be some big decisions to make regarding who will be on the roster, and those decisions will have to be made relatively quickly. That's with or without Zion Williamson being involved.

Zion's Duke Blue Devils lost out to Michigan State on Sunday, which marked the end of his college career. Even if the 18-year-old does end up missing out on the opportunity to represent the nation in the World Cup, we will only need to wait a few more months before we finally see the 6-foot-7 phenom in action in the NBA.
