The San Antonio Spurs always manage to fly under the radar up until playoff time and the 2017-18 NBA season is no different. The Spurs have gotten off to a solid 6-4 start even without their superstar Kawhi Leonard.

Leonard is still nursing a quad injury that has kept him out of both the preseason and the first few weeks of the 2017-18 NBA season. Unfortunately, Spurs head coach Greg Popovich says the team may have to go a bit longer without the two-time Defensive Player of the Year, according to Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express:

“He's just coming along more slowly, for whatever reason. It's just been more difficult for him to get through the rehab routine. His body hasn't reacted the same way.”

The update from Gregg Popovich is concerning for fans who were hoping to see Kawhi Leonard have yet another MVP-like season. Fortunately, the Spurs still have yet to miss a beat when it comes to locking up opposing offenses as they currently rank sixth in overall team defense.

However, the Spurs have suffered tremendously on offense where they are 26th in the NBA in points per game (99.9). Although Kawhi Leonard has been mostly known for his defensive prowess, it is clear that he will be heavily relied on to score points whenever he manages to return from injury.
