Like most other NBA teams, the San Antonio Spurs are looking forward to next week’s 2018 NBA Draft as an opportunity to shore up their lineup. The Spurs own the No. 22 pick in the first round and are still in the process of reviewing their options.

According to sources of Jabari Young of the San Antonio Express-News, the Spurs might be eyeing to spend that pick on a stretch-big man, as the team is reportedly looking to host Villanova Wildcats product Omari Spellman for a second workout.

League sources told the Express-News the Spurs are targeting Spellman for a second workout before next Thursday's NBA Draft.

Spellman was a crucial cog in the Wildcats’ most recent title run. A versatile big man with a great touch from the outside, the 6-foot-9 Spellman averaged 10.9 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game while converting 47.6 percent of his shots from the field and a fantastic 43.3 percent clip from the 3-point area. It’s also a plus for Spellman in the eyes of at least a few scouts that he played under a more pro-system run by Villanova head coach Jay Wright.

Omari Spellman turned a lot of heads in the NCAA National Tournament, particularly during the Sweet 16 matchup with the West Virginia Mountaineers in which he dropped 18 points to go with eight rebounds and three assists while knocking down four of his seven 3-point shot attempts.

With Pau Gasol in the twilight portion of his NBA career, the Spurs could groom someone like Spellman, who has the potential to become an important figure in the Spurs’ frontcourt.
