With NBA All-Star Weekend looming, the league is starting to trim the field of potential 3-Point Contest participants.

One such candidate is San Antonio Spurs big man Davis Bertans, who is stroking the three-ball at 48.6 percent on 4.1 attempts per game this season.

Bertans' Spurs teammate and fellow sharpshooter Marco Belinelli has thrown his support behind his comrade, saying he should absolutely receive an invitation to the shootout:

“One-hundred percent, no question about it, he should be invited,” said Belinelli, according to Tom Orsborn of The San Antonio Express-News. “I was talking with my girlfriend, my brother, a couple of friends about that. He's a machine. He's a great shooter. I've never seen someone like him. He's really good.”

Belinelli won the contest himself during his first stint with San Antonio back in 2014, representing the only Spurs player to ever emerge victorious in the event.

Will Marco be interested in potentially challenging Bertans?

“I already won one in New Orleans, so I'm okay with that,” he said.

As for Bertans himself? He says he would like to participate, but he isn't sure if he has taken enough triples to actually qualify:

“That would be nice, but I don't know if I am shooting enough to participate,” he said.

I would say that attempting over four three-pointers a game is certainly enough of a sample size.

Bertans is now in his third season in the NBA, with all of them coming with the Spurs. He is a lifetime 41.4 percent shooter from long range.
