Spurs have best record in NBA over the last 20 seasons
The San Antonio Spurs have set the standard for excellence as a sports franchise not just in the NBA, but in the professional sports world, for years. It’s no surprise that in the last 20 years, the Spurs have the highest winning percentage of any NBA team, and it’s not even close. They are a full .103 points higher than the next closest team, the Dallas Mavericks:
Top NBA Teams by record over the last 20 years:
1. Spurs: 1,135-489 (.699 winning percentage)
2. Mavs: 958-656 (.596)
3. Rockets: 928-696 (.571)
4. Heat: 898-726 (.553)
5. Lakers: 893-731 (.550)
6. Thunder/Sonics: 887-737 (.546)
7. Celtics: 886-737 (.546)

Here are a few more crazy statistics about the Spurs excellent run:
Currently, the team is on a 22-year streak of making the playoffs. Of the last 30 years, they have missed the playoffs just one time.
In the 20-year streak, the Spurs have won no less than 47 games, which was in 2017-18. Their best record came in 2015-16 when the team won 67 games.
The Spurs have won five championships since 1998. They are 5-1 in their Finals appearances over that span, losing only to the Miami Heat in 2012-13.
San Antonio has only one negative defensive rating in 22 years. That rating occurred in the 2018-19 season.
Obviously, the Spurs have had a run that most sports franchises can only dream of. Seeing that type of success is almost impossible, and the Spurs managed to pull it off.
However, it looks like the playoff streak could be in danger next season. The team will be competing in a loaded Western Conference that only got better in the offseason. We’ll see if Gregg Popovich and company can work their magic yet again and keep the good times coming.
