Things have steadily picked up over the few weeks for the San Antonio Spurs regarding All-Star forward Kawhi Leonard's future with the franchise. It has become quite clear that he has a strong desire to move on elsewhere due to how things have unfolded over this past season involving his quad injury.

Throughout the process, the Spurs have remained firm on first trying to work things out with the two-time Defensive Player of the Year, but it doesn't look like things will head in that direction. According to Marc Stein of The New York Times, San Antonio has become more comfortable with the idea of trading the 26-year-old.

The San Antonio Spurs are moving closer to cutting ties with their superstar forward Kawhi Leonard, according to two people familiar with the team’s thinking, though the timetable on a potential trade remains unclear.

Realizing that hopes of repairing its damaged relationship with Leonard are fading by the day, San Antonio is ready to move on from Leonard provided that a palatable trade offer materializes this off-season, according to the people, who were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

Given that Leonard has backed the Spurs into this position, the front office has been put in the spot of having to heavily consider trade offers. What has been difficult on this front is that no other team is willing to make a serious offer due to his desire to join the Los Angeles Lakers.

San Antonio has made it evident that they would prefer to avoid doing business with the Lakers, but no team may offer what they have in terms of young talent for Leonard. At the same time, Los Angeles' increased interest came due to reports that their chances of landing LeBron James could vastly increase with the presence of the All-Star forward on the roster. Those initial reports have been rebuffed, but at the same time, there may not be a better offer on the table then what the Lakers may present.

It is a fluid situation that could see much movement in the next few days with the Spurs finally getting to a resolution on this matter for the betterment of the future of the franchise that will likely be without Leonard.
