During a pro-am event at the Safeway Open on Wednesday, Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry got into a shooting contest with professional golfer, Harold Varner III, and it didn’t go how you would expect.

According to Ron Kroichick of the San Francisco Chronicle, there happened to be a basketball hoop on the side of the course and the pair began to take shots. Although the distance was within Curry’s usual range, Varner managed to make the first shot.

The shootout began on the 17th hole of the course, when a fan handed a ball to Curry for the 28-year-old to take a shot. After easily making a shot, he stepped back to around half-court distance.

After several unsuccessful attempts, it was amazingly Varner who hit the bottom of the net first.

Following the contest, SkratchTV interviewed Curry and Varner about the impromptu shooting competition. Varner insisted that he didn’t actually beat him and that the ground they were shooting from was uneven.

Varner was well within his rights to let everyone know about his victory, but provided a very political answer. Well played, humble sir.
