A new game produced under the vision of the famed Tetsuya Nomura and developed by Team Ninja is indeed in the works. Titled Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, the game will allow players to take on the role of a darker, edgier Warrior of Light. Set prior to the events of Final Fantasy I, the game will “feel different,” says Nomura, “but there's no doubt that the blood of Final Fantasy runs through its veins.” The game will be a souls-like, the first of its kind in the Final Fantasy franchise.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin Demo for the PS5

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin haves you control Jack, one of the prophesied Warriors of Light. He's accompanied by Ash and Jed in his quest to “kill chaos.” Apart from that, we also saw the game's rendition of Chaos, who may or may not be Garland. Coincidentally, Producer Tetsuya Nomura also worked in Dissidia Final Fantasy, in which Chaos was the primary antagonist.

Thankfully, we can go beyond just the trailer to find out if Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin will be a game to our liking. After the game's trailer finished during the E3 2021 presentation by SQUARE ENIX, its demo showed up at the PlayStation Store. However, as of press time, the demo isn't working, with SQUARE ENIX saying that they'll be fixing it. [EDIT: The demo is now working as intended.] The game demo will be up until June 24, 2021. Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin will be released sometime in 2022 on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and the PS5.
