While his debut season has been somewhat overshadowed by what Luka Doncic and Trae Young have been doing for their respective teams, it is undeniable that Phoenix Suns rookie Deandre Ayton has proven to be one of the most promising big men in the league today.

As a matter of fact, last June's first overall pick actually outperforms the likes of Joel Embiid and Karl-Anthony Towns in one specific offensive facet:

While it is true that Ayton's usage rate is not as high as the other two big men on the list — this is apparent in the fewer attempts he takes from the post versus that of Embiid and Towns — the fact of the matter here is that Ayton's post game is definitely elite.

What's even more impressive is that Ayton is just 20 years of age and has yet to even complete a single full season in the league. Embiid is already 24 and a two-time All-Star, while Towns himself has two All-Star nods at 23. We can only imagine how good Ayton will be in time with two or more full seasons under his belt.

Currently, Deandre Ayton is putting up 16.4 points (on 58.4 percent shooting), 10.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.9 steals, 0.9 blocks, and just 1.7 turnovers in 31.0 minutes per ballgame. These are unquestionably outstanding numbers — especially for a rookie — and the former Arizona standout would have been a shoo-in for the ROY award had he been part of a less talented draft class.
