Longtime veteran Suns shooting guard Jamal Crawford is still doing amazing things on the court well onto the tail end of his NBA career. Monday night saw him add another milestone to his storied career, dishing out a career-high 14 assists, breaking his previous high of 12, which he achieved in the same Madison Square Garden building as a member of the New York Knicks.

The playmaking frenzy was in a way a resemblance of his role with the Suns — no longer the deadly one-on-one scorer, but a mentor doing what it takes to propel his team forward.

“I’ve been in that zone scoring, where you get lost in the game. But (this time) I was in that zone passing,” Crawford said, according to Gina Mizell of The Athletic. “I felt like I’m gonna just create every play (and) try to get guys going (for) easy shots.

“They had the tough job of finishing, but I had to try to navigate it.”

Crawford's best friend was the rim-running Richaun Holmes, who netted all of his six basket off his assists — a quick throwback to Crawford's beginnings as a point guard at Rainier Beach High School in his native Seattle.

“His basketball mind was really on display tonight,” said Holmes.

Crawford broke his previous career-high of 12 dimes with a bounce pass to star Devin Booker for a fadeaway jumper.

“Everything he does just looks really flashy,” said Booker. “I don’t think he tries. It’s just his game. His handle is so tight. He’ll just throw it like that real quick. He has that instinct of basketball, just a ‘hooper’ mentality.”

Crawford netted his career highs in scoring and assists at MSG, a feeling he likely won't forget, as he's managed to save his best performances for the mecca of basketball, where the lights shine brightest.
