There is absolutely no doubt that Chris Paul was one of, if not the biggest reason behind the Phoenix Suns' unprecedented success last season. The 36-year-old veteran just had one of the best campaigns of his decorated career and it resulted in a truly impressive run for the Suns, who themselves just fell short of taking the title back home to Phoenix.

Paul's future with the Suns, however, has been anything but certain at this point. The 11-time All-Star currently has a Player Option on his current deal for the upcoming season and if he so chooses, he could very well walk away from Phoenix this summer.

Suns owner Robert Sarver recently shared his thoughts on Chris Paul's pending extension with the team. When asked if he believed there was anything preventing CP3 from re-signing with the Suns, Sarver had a pretty cryptic response:

“Eh, I don't know, I'm sure there probably is,” Sarver responded, via Suns insider Kellan Olson. “But I think our first priority would be to try and get him back, but that'll depend on his agent and (Suns GM) James (Jones) and him and me and all that kind of stuff so I don't know. We'll see next week I guess, right?”

That's not exactly an answer from a man who's confident that they can retain the services of Chris Paul for next season. Then again, Sarver could be playing some mind games here with the Suns looking to negotiate a new deal with CP3. Paul is supposed to earn $44.2 million on the final year of his contract next term, but he could opt to turn this down and ask for more, or perhaps negotiate a more long-term deal.

Whatever the case may be, Sarver and the Suns better tread lightly here. It goes without saying that losing Chris Paul would be a huge blow for this team and what they've been able to accomplish this season.
