Apart from betting on who's going to be crowned Super Bowl LV champion on Sunday, fans also laid money on the table on the color of the Gatorade Showe on the winning coach. Well, the color has been revealed after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians, who brushed off retirement rumors, was showered with blue Gatorade after they ran away with the convincing 31-9 victory.
Below were the betting odds on which color of Gatorade will be poured on the winning coach per DraftKings Sportsbook.
Orange: +125
Red: +200
Yellow/Green/Lime: +300
Clear/Water: +350
Blue: +700
Purple: +800
For casual fans, this betting may seem weird or downright trivial, but it is really part of the whole Super Bowl experience, including the latest one between the Buccaneers and the Chiefs. In a report by The Athletic, a former Gatorade executive admitted there are stealthy practices to keep the drink's color a secret.
“It's “intentionally randomized” to keep people guessing. An actual effort is made to keep the color a secret, as there are up to three coolers “with different flavors” lined up for the players to grab to dump on their coach. Nobody can actually tell you what flavor it'll be. The best guess they could give you is the two or three options.”
The Gatorade Shower has been a time-honored tradition in the NFL. It reportedly began in 1984 when the New York Giants beat the Washington Redskins, 37-13 in a regular season game. Giants tackle Jim Burt poured Gatorade on coach Bill Parcels after being angry over the latter's treatment of him that week.
With the mystery solved after the Buccaneers' triumph, losers of this year's Super Bowl Gatorade bet must be feeling a little blue.
