UFC Vegas 92: Edson Barboza vs. Lerone Murphy continues on the prelims with a fight in the bantamweight division between Tamires Vidal and Melissa Gatto. Vidal is coming off her first loss inside the Octagon meanwhile, Gatto will be stepping in on short notice moving up a weight class after losing back-to-back fights. Tamires Vidal (7-2) was getting ready to fight Hailey Cowan but she had to withdraw after suffering an injury during her camp and now she will be taking on short-notice replacement Melissa Gatto. Vidal came into her UFC debut with a 5-fight winning streak and put everyone on notice with a first-round flying knee knockout of Ramona Pascual only to drop her next fight against Montserrat Rendon via split decision. Now, she looks to right her wrong when she takes on Melissa Gatto this weekend at UFC Vegas 92.
Melissa Gatto (8-2-2) was getting ready to face Victoria Dudakova back in March only for her to fall ill right before the fight leading to the fight being canceled. After Gatto found out that Cowan was out she put her name in the mix and she is now stepping up in weight on short notice to get back into the win column after losing two straight when she takes on Tamires Vidal this weekend at the UFC Apex.

Why Tamires Vidal Will Win
Tamires Vidal came into her UFC debut riding a five-fight winning streak with two consecutive finishes leading up to her UFC debut. She then did one better in her UFC debut when she knocked out Ramona Pascual with a flying knee putting Vidal on notice in the women's bantamweight division. Unfortunately, she laid a dud in her next fight inside the Octagon dropping a close decision to Montserrat Rendon, and will now be looking to get back on track when she takes on Melissa Gatto this weekend at UFC Vegas 92.
Vidal is a fighter who has had a decent regional resume fighting the likes of Karol Rosa, Ailin Perez, and Queila Braga en route to her UFC debut. Her knockout of Ramona Pascual showed her potential even though her fight against Rendon left a lot to be desired. In that loss against Rendon, it was her takedown defense that was exploited to its fullest but it's hard to believe that Gatto could replicate that same success as Rendon just based on the size and strength that Rendon possesses. Gatto is a good grappler in her own right but certainly will not be landing takedowns easily in this one and on the feet Vidal is a bully who will be coming forward looking to throw heavy strikes and thunderous leg kicks. Vidal should be the one landing the harder shots in this fight and as long as she throws more volume mixing up her targets in this fight against Gatto she has a real chance of scoring the upset and getting back on track.
Why Melissa Gatto Will Win
Melissa Gatto finally gets to step inside the Octagon this weekend when she steps in for the injured Hailey Cowan on a couple of weeks' notice to take on Tamires Vidal. Gatto was originally scheduled to face off against Victoria Dudakova back in March but she unfortunately fell ill right before the fight and she had to withdraw. Now, Gatto will move up to the bantamweight division to right the ship and finally get back on track after losing two straight fights when she takes on Tamires Vidal at the Apex this Saturday.
Melissa Gatto showed a lot of promise in her first two fights to start her UFC career stopping both Sijara Eubanks and Victoria Leonardo only to drop her next two fights and is now winless over the last three years. She is well-versed on the feet and the mat as she is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt with four of her eight wins coming by submission. While she certainly can compete on the feet with Vidal, her path to victory is taking her down and dominating her there much like Rendon was able to do. If Gatto can avoid having a kickboxing match with Vidal and drag this fight to the mat she can get back on track with a much-needed victory at UFC Vegas 92.
Final Tamires Vidal-Melissa Gatto Prediction & Pick
This should be an interesting fight between these two bantamweight fighters. Gatto has a tall task coming in on short notice up a weight class against a bruiser like Vidal. Gatto will surely be the faster of the two and more technical on the feet but Vidal's pressure and power will be the difference maker in this fight. Ultimately, Gatto will look good early but her failed takedowns and Vidals forward pressure will break her down the stretch and Vidal will outwork her throughout the fight as well as land the harder shots en route to a decision victory.
