It goes without saying that the Houston Texans were one of the most injury-riddled teams in the 2017 NFL season. Fortunately, there is a newfound sense of optimism for the 2018 NFL season.

Among the notable star players whose year was cut short was defensive end J.J. Watt. However, head coach Bill O'Brien said during an appearance on “Good Morning Football” that he does not expect any rust from Watt in his return:

“Not at all,” O’Brien said. “When I see him every day, he’s in here early, stays late. He’s doing a lot of great things both on and off the field relative to being able to be back and ready to go. Obviously, we’re not going to rush any of our injured guys. Those guys are right on schedule. J.J.’s doing a great job with his rehab. I see him every single day. I’ve said this time and time again, this is a guy that’s one of the best players to ever play the game. I would never bet against J.J Watt. He’s going to be back, he’s going to be at full strength and he’s going to help us win a lot of games.”

It has been a rough stretch for Watt recently, to say the least.

He had become the gold standard for production and durability after not missing a game for the first five years of his career. Unfortunately, Watt has experienced a reversal of fortune as of late after playing in just eight games over the last two seasons. As a result, there has been some concern about whether or not he will be able to return to his former self.

Fortunately, he has a strong believer in O'Brien, and for good reason.

When healthy, Watt is arguably the best defensive player in the NFL. Houston has invested heavily in its defensive line and is likely hoping to see some return next season.

Although it may take some time to get back to his true form, the former All-Pro should have no problem regaining that designation next year.
