Former Raiders CB David Amerson to meet with Texans
The Houston Texans are strapped with a significant amount of salary cap space for this upcoming offseason, meaning they should be heavily involved in free agency.
Free agent CB David Amerson, a rare veteran available in February, is visiting the #Texans today, source says. He’s got 3 more visits this week after that one, had a full week last week.

Since being released by the Raiders earlier this month, Amerson has already met with the Chicago Bears while other teams around the league have already expressed interest in acquiring him. The 26-year-old struggled to stay on the field last season, missing 10 games due to foot problems. Before playing the last three seasons with the Raiders, Amerson spent the first three seasons of his career with the Washington Redskins.
Amerson was a steady part of the Raiders’ secondary for the last couple of years, but injuries affected his play on the field and led to the front office deciding to part ways with him. In fact, his performance on the field only contributed to the team’s lackluster play defensively against the pass in 2017.
Amerson still had three more years left on the four-year, $33.9 million deal that he signed last offseason with Oakland. Amerson has a chance to prove that he’s past the injury bug while performing at an effective level in the next venture of his career. The number of teams that are interested in his services surely makes it clear that they believe he can be an impactful asset in the secondary.
The Texans are definitely hoping to improve their secondary after losing A.J. Bouye to the Jacksonville Jaguars last season, where he earned his first Pro Bowl nod.
