The Houston Texans handed left tackle Laremy Tunsil a massive contract extension this offseason, signing the former Miami Dolphins first-round selection to a three-year, $66 million deal with $57 million in guarantees.

While Tunsil, 25, only spent a single season in Houston protecting franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson, the 6-foot-5, 313-pound offensive lineman expressed gratitude in remaining with the Texans and having a guaranteed long-term deal.

“That’s a great question because an extension wasn’t really on my mind,” Tunsil told reporters on Monday, via Texans Wire. “I was just in shock that I got traded from Miami to Houston and then I had play in the game in a couple of days. So, an extension wasn’t really on my mind.

“I’m glad we got it done with the Texans,” Tunsil said. “I’m glad to be a Texan for the next three or four years, and excited to be in this position.”

Tunsil was taken with the 13th overall pick by the Dolphins out of Ole Miss in the 2016 NFL Draft. He spent three seasons in South Florida before Miami dealt the tackle alongside wideout Kenny Stills and two draft picks for veteran defensive back Johnson Bademosi, offensive tackle Julie'n Davenport, and three draft picks. The deal included two first-rounders, one of which was later sent to the Green Bay Packers and used to take potential Aaron Rodgers successor in Jordan Love.

There are many changes and roster turnover masterminded by head coach and general manager Bill O'Brien for the Texans. However, Houston should have consistency and stability in front of prized signal-caller Watson. Especially with Tunsil remaining in a Texans uniform for the foreseeable future.
