The Houston Texans have been waiting for Jadeveon Clowney to end his holdout and return to the team in the near future. In a turn of events, a trade involving Clowney may be inevitable at this point according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.

The Texans are in need of a reliable left tackle, but the market for players at that position is currently thin. Plus, the asking price for a pass-rusher of Clowney's caliber is steep—as we saw with Dee Ford and Frank Clark this offseason.

At the beginning of the offseason, Houston placed their franchise tag on Clowney after not being able to get a long-term deal done. Despite the tag, Clowney made it known that he would be a no-show for training camp as he still wanted the Texans to give him a lucrative extension.

Presently, Clowney has yet to sign the franchise tag and would need to sign that before being traded. With the franchise tag, the former No. 1 pick would be set to make nearly $16 million in 2019.

Playing on the franchise tag would make Clowney the fourth highest-paid edge-defender in 2019. The only players set to make more than $16 million this season is Von Miller, Melvin Ingram, and Chandler Jones.

However, Clowney is longing for a long-term deal to provide some assurance to his future in the NFL. Considering that Clark and Ford received deals that pay them more than $17 million annually, Clowney's likely expecting a deal in the same ballpark.

In the last two seasons, Clowney has combined for 18.5 sacks, 37 tackles for loss, 42 quarterback hits, and three forced fumbles.
