Brandon Flowers and the Killers paid homage to U2 during their recent show in Dublin, Ireland, by playing a snippet of “Sweetest Thing.” They followed in the footsteps of Smashing Pumpkins who similarly covered the band recently.

During the Killers' June 15 show at 3Arena in Dublin, they played a snippet of “Sweetest Thing” at the end of “Read My Mind.” The crowd recognized the song and sang the backing vocals with Flowers.

Unlike the U2 song, the Killers' version keeps an up-tempo. After a verse and chorus, the snippet ended. During the same show, the Killers also played a snippet of Elvis Presley's “Are You Lonesome Tonight?” at the end of “A Dustland Fairytale” in addition to their U2 homage.

“Sweetest Thing” is a single from U2 released as a B-side to “Where the Streets Have No Name” in 1987. The single was subsequently re-recorded and re-released on the band's The Best of 1980-1990 compilation album.

Who are U2?

U2 is one of the biggest rock bands in the world that was formed in Dublin, Ireland in 1976. Since their conception, the band has remained intact with members Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr.

To date, U2 has released 15 studio albums. Their debut album, Boy, came in 1980. They followed it up with the successful October and War.

The Unforgettable Fire further put them on the map before their biggest album to date, The Joshua Tree, came out. It helped U2 cross over to the United States and gain worldwide stardom. They followed it up with Rattle and Hum before reinventing themselves.

Achtung Baby kicked off a new era for U2 in 1991. They followed this album up with Zooropa and Pop in 1993 and 1997, respectively. Since 2000, the band has released six albums — All That You Can't Leave Behind, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, No Line on the Horizon, Songs of Innocence, Songs of Experience, and Songs of Surrender.

Recently, U2 played their first concert residency of their career in Las Vegas. They were the first band to play at the Sphere and opened the high-tech venue.

The residency was centered around their 1991 album, Achtung Baby. For the first time, the band played it in full during the concerts. Bono, The Edge, and Adam Clayton were joined by Bram van den Berg for the 40-show residency.
