The Miami Dolphins organization recently decided to head into a different direction with rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa getting the nod to be the team's starter moving forward. Veteran playmaker Ryan Fitzpatrick was then relegated to the backseat and will serve as the 22-year-old's backup in their coming games.

Dolphins head coach Brian Flores bared that the rookie's development in recent weeks influenced them to make the change, as per NFL Network's Michael Giardi:

The 16-year vet in Fitzpatrick started under center for the Dolphins in each of the team's first six games of the 2020 NFL season. His performance led to three wins against the Jacksonville Jaguars, San Francisco 49ers, and the New York Jets along with three losses against the New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills, and the Seattle Seahawks.

Fitzpatrick has played well for Miami this season where he completed a career-high 70.1% of his passes for 1,525 passing yards with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions for an accumulated 95.0 quarterback rating. Over the past two games, Fitzpatrick has recorded back-to-back three-touchdown performances, which both resulted to Dolphins' victories.

Tua Tagovailoa recently got his first taste of action in the big leagues when he was inserted into game action with 2:27 minutes left in the final frame of a blowout game against the Jets. He tallied a decent 2/2 passes completed and a total of nine passing yards in the 24-0 win.

The former Alabama standout will officially take over the helm in their Week 8 matchup against the visiting Los Angeles Rams on November 1. His recent promotion will be the start of a new dawn for both the Dolphins franchise and Tagovailoa's NFL career.
