Minnesota Vikings rookie wide receiver Jordan Addison may have had a valid reason for driving 140 MPH in a 55 MPH zone in his Lamborghini early in the morning on July 20. As Addison told a state trooper in his citation, an emergency with his dog was the reason for his speeding, per Paul Walsh of the Star Tribune.

Addison had released a statement apologizing for his “mistake” and “poor judgement”, saying that he was “going to learn from it.”

The Vikings wideout did not include this reasoning in his statement, but it was included in the police report. Here's what the citation stated, “Driver stated his dog was having an emergency at his residence, and that was the reason for his speed.”

Addison was cited for reckless driving while “consciously disregarding a substantial or unjustifiable risk.” The Vikings receiver was also driving the Lamborghini with dealer plates at the time.

If an emergency with his dog was truly the reason behind Addison's speeding, it certainly changes how this incident will be viewed.

The Vikings' 23rd overall pick in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft back in April, Addison reported for training camp along with the rest of the rookies on Sunday.

Minnesota had released a statement after the speeding incident, saying “We are aware of last night's traffic incident involving Jordan Addison and are gathering additional information.”

Addison, 21, won the Biletnikoff Award, given to the nation's best receiver, back in 2021 with Pittsburgh. After transferring to USC, Addison tallied 875 yards and eight scores with Heisman Trophy-winning QB Caleb Williams, further cementing his status as a first round wideout.

Now, he'll be looking to put this incident behind him as training camp gets underway.
