Coming into the college football season, there were three running backs expected to be the top prospects in the nation. Wisconsin's Jonathan Taylor, Clemson's Travis Etienne, and Georgia's D'Andre Swift were viewed as the big three. Throughout the season, a new front runner has emerged.

Ohio State's J.K. Dobbins has been an absolute work horse this season for the No. 1 team in the country. He has 250 carries this season which is sixth in the nation and is averaging 6.6 yards per carry. Dobbins has totaled 1,657 yards and 19 touchdowns. He has gone over 100 yards eight times this season with his best game coming against rival Michigan. Against the Wolverines, Dobbins carried the ball 31 times for 211 yards and four touchdowns.

When draft day comes, there will be plenty of teams looking for a running back that could carry the load. Dobbins is from La Grange, Texas and he could end up in his home state when his name is called.

Could Dobbins Return to Texas?

The Houston Texans should be in the market for a running back. They have not had the best luck over the years at the position. Dobbins is the type of player that can change that narrative.

Houston had a great talent with Arian Foster before his career was cut short due to injuries. Since then, they have been running with names like Alfred Blue, D'Onta Foreman, and Andre Ellington. In 2019, they were hoping for big things from Lamar Miller before he went down with a torn ACL. This has forced the team to go with Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson. It is safe to say that the Texans should be targeting a running back in the draft.

Dobbins is a back that can succeed in the NFL in the same way Ezekiel Elliott is in Dallas. At 5'11 and 217 pounds, Dobbins is a big, strong runner who can excel quickly in the open field. He is a reliable ball carrier that is used to leading the way in the backfield. There will be no growing pains for a bulk runner like Dobbins.

This drat is full of talent at every position. Many running backs have emerged as prospects and Dobbins could be put at the top of that list. He is a Heisman type player this season and there is no doubt that he will be a productive pro once he enters the league. The Texans could use Dobbins to go with Deshaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins to build an even stronger offense.
