The Oklahoma City Thunder are seeing the fruits of their three-year rebuild pay off in a big way in the 2023-24 season. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has continued his MVP-level play, and the rest of the Thunder roster have caught up, giving him as ideal a supporting cast as there can be in the modern NBA. On Wednesday night in a 129-120 win over the New York Knicks, Gilgeous-Alexander wasn't alone in carrying the offensive workload, as Jalen Williams scored 36 and Chet Holmgren poured in 22 for good measure.

The Thunder have so much size at every position that they can make opposing teams bend to their will. Their versatility and two-way prowess are what makes OKC such a dangerous team to compete against, and now, they can even realistically dream about vying for an NBA championship.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, in the aftermath of the Thunder's win over the Knicks, couldn't help but gush over his team's top-to-bottom quality that has allowed them to flourish as one of the best teams in the league today.

“To win big in this league, you need multiple options… And that’s our goal… to win big in this league,” Gilgeous-Alexander said, per Brandon Rahbar of Daily Thunder.

OKC's multiple options were in display on Wednesday against the Knicks. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander draws two to three defenders on the regular due to his three-level scoring mastery, so it's up to the team's secondary scoring options to capitalize on the space he creates. Jalen Williams was the one who stepped up against the Knicks, but on other nights, Chet Holmgren, Josh Giddey, and Isaiah Joe pick up the slack.

This isn't even without getting into the multiple defensive options the Thunder have. They have Luguentz Dort as a stifling presence while defending the point of attack, while Cason Wallace, the rookie, is coming into his own as well.

At present, the Thunder have the league's sixth-ranked offense and defense, and they're third in the league in net rating, at 7.8. They have all the makings of a title contender, and with a legitimate MVP contender in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leading the way, the league should be very afraid of OKC.
