Tiger Woods is one of the most recognizable sports personalities in the world. The golf legend has faced several problems and mistakes throughout his highly publicized life and career, including several injuries, a horrific car crash, and the infamous infidelity scandal.

They always say there are two sides to every story. And in this piece, we are here to talk about one of the people most affected by the 2009 extramarital controversy, and how she has been doing since: Woods' ex-wife Elin Nordegren.

Nordegren was born on January 1, 1980, in Stockholm, Sweden. Her father was a radio journalist while her mother was a former minister of migration. Nordegren grew up with two siblings, an elder brother Axel, and a twin sister Josefin.

She and Woods got engaged in November 2003 and were married almost a year later. They held their wedding in Barbados and settled down at Windemere in Orlando, Florida. Woods and Nordegren were blessed with their firstborn in 2007. According to a report by USA Today, Nordegren had experienced complications while preparing to deliver their daughter, Sam Alexis. Woods was competing at the US Open at the time of the delivery. Two years later, their second child, Charlie Axel, was born.

After late 2009 reports of her Woods' infidelity, Nordegren was subject to extensive media exposure. The couple tried to work on their marriage but were unsuccessful. Months after the initial reports, Nordegren and Woods finalized their divorce. Part of Nordegren's legal team was her sister Josefin, who worked at an international law firm, and some of her US colleagues. In 2010, nine months after the shocking scandal, People published a rare interview with the famously tight-lipped and private Nordegren.

“I have been through the stages of disbelief and shock, to anger and ultimately grief over the loss of the family I so badly wanted for my children. My immediate plan is for the kids and me to continue to adjust to our new situation. I am going to keep taking classes, but my main focus is to try to give myself time to heal.”

Thankfully, after a long period of healing, it seems that the two are now finally on good terms. In a 2015 interview with TIME, Woods only had good things to say about his ex-wife.

“Having the relationship that I have now with her is fantastic. She’s one of my best friends. We’re able to pick up the phone, and we talk to each other all the time. We both know that the most important things in our lives are our kids. I wish I would have known that back then.”

Post-divorce, Elin Nordegren has since graduated from Rollins College with a bachelor's degree in psychology after nine years. Not only that, she earned the top honor, also known as the Hamilton Holt Outstanding Senior Award, as part of the Class of 2014. As reported by TIME, she referenced the tumultuous divorce in her graduation commencement speech, referring to it as “the wild storm of my personal life.”

Aside from her educational achievements, the former model is currently in a relationship with former NFL tight end Jordan Cameron, who last played for the Miami Dolphins. Nordegren and Cameron welcomed a baby boy in October 2019. Woods, meanwhile, dated Olympic gold medal skier Lindsey Vonn but broke up after two years. He now seems to have found happiness with his girlfriend of nearly five years, restaurant manager Erica Herman. According to People, Herman and Nordegren have a friendly relationship. Herman also reportedly gets along with Sam and Charlie.

To the delight of golf fans, Charlie seems to be pursuing a golf career like his legendary father. In fact, the 13-year-old prodigy competed at last year's PNC Championship in Florida. Teaming up with Woods, he competed against another father-son duo, John Daly and John Daly II. Although the Woods duo lost, the young golfer impressed spectators. Some even pointed out how his mannerisms on the green are quite similar to his 15-time major champion dad, who has finally returned to competition after his horrific car crash.

Nobody can really turn back the clock and change what happened, but it seems Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren are doing well with their individual lives. They also have been making it work for their two children. Having a good friendship and co-parenting setup seems to be working well for them, and all we can hope is that they continue to be happy as they move on with their lives.
