Since it was revealed that Kyrie Irving had recently requested a trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Minnesota Timberwolves have emerged as one of the possible landing spots.

According to Jon Krawczynski of the Associated Press, the Timberwolves have been serious in attempting to working out a deal to land the three-time All-Star that include Andrew Wiggins in the discussion.

Minnesota has been approached in the past about possibly involving Wiggins in a trade with the most recent being for Jimmy Butler, but the team was able to acquire the All-Star forward this summer without the former first overall pick being moved.

That said, the addition of Butler could make a bit more Wiggins expendable if it means being able to obtain a top tier point guard in Irving in exchange. This potential move could displace Jeff Teague, who had inked a three-year, $57 million contract this offseason to be their starting point guard.

If the Timberwolves indeed want Irving, they have a major decision in front of them as they were in recent discussions about inking a massive long-term extension with Wiggins on a five-year, $148 million deal. If the front office is willing to put him a potential offer for Irving, it could get the ball rolling in a major way toward working out a trade.
