The Minnesota Timberwolves will be getting center Karl-Anthony Towns back for Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers after he missed the past 13 games due to a positive test for COVID-19, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.
The Timberwolves getting Towns back is huge for a team that has been struggling to start the year with just a 6-18 record, which is worst in the Western Conference.
KAT has only suited up in four games this season and is averaging 22.0 points with 12.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists.
Towns has been extremely vocal regarding the virus and in turn has urged people to take it seriously and wear masks, and for good reason. He lost his mom Jacqueline to the virus back in April 2020, and he has lost six other family members, including his grandma, to COVID-19.
Towns has had a rough year, to say the least, as he had a wrist injury at the beginning of the year and was just starting to find his groove before testing positive back in January. The hope is having KAT back will make this Timberwolves team more competitive.
While the Timberwolves won't be a playoff team this season, barring an unforeseen miracle, having their best player back should at least make them more enjoyable and more competitive, which could save head coach Ryan Saunders' job.
It's great news that Towns is back and healthy after recovering form the virus, especially considering everything he has been through over the past year.
