The Minnesota Timberwolves are reportedly set to make some significant changes to their roster this offseason. Center Karl-Anthony Towns has seemingly made it clear that he would like to pair up with Brooklyn Nets point guard D'Angelo Russell.

There is plenty of speculation regarding Russell's future in Brooklyn. According to Jordan Zirm of UPROXX, Towns made it clear that he should be on Minnesota's radar:

You’ve been vocal about the Timberwolves having a chance to make major improvements via free agency. You’ve done some D’Angelo Russell whispering on Instagram. Have you paid attention to all the player movement and rumors this summer?

Yes. I pay very close attention to free agency. And D’Angelo is not getting whispers, he’s getting more of a yell from a microphone. This is a big free agency period for us as an organization, so we’re taking every step and exploring every avenue.

How long have you known Russell?

Forever. Me and D’Angelo have known each other for a very long time. We’ve talked about how much we want to play with each other, not even just in the NBA or college, but in high school. Who would’ve thought we’re at this moment now.

This is certainly an interesting development coming out of Minnesota. They generated plenty of hype when they put together a star-studded trio. Unfortunately, the Timberwolves have fallen vastly short of expectations that ultimately led to the departure of wingman Jimmy Butler. Things did not get much better in his absence as there are now reports of the front office “aggressively” shopping forward Andrew Wiggins this summer.

The prospect of pairing Towns and Russell together this offseason is certainly an intriguing one. They were the top-2 picks in the 2015 NBA Draft. Although they each have endured their fair share of struggles, there is no question that they now boast some serious star power between the two.

Rumors suggest Russell's future in Brooklyn could be tied to whether or not they are successful in their reported attempts to sign point guard Kyrie Irving. It will be interesting to see if the Timberwolves can grant Towns' wish if the Nets' plan comes to fruition.
