Minnesota Timberwolves' first overall pick Anthony Edwards had himself quite a night. In an intense head-to-head battle with the reigning ROTY Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies, Edwards put his name in the history books with his incredible evening.

The 19-year-old exploded for 42 points on 8-of-9 shooting from deep which makes him the youngest baller in NBA history to put up 40+ points while knocking down 5+ threes in a single game, enough to surpass the likes of LeBron James and Kevin Durant (via StatMuse).

Edwards also added six boards and five assists as he led the way for the Wolves with his game-high of 42.

Unfortunately, Edwards' outburst wasn't enough as Morant's 37 was more than enough for the visiting squad to snatch an important 139-135 win. Still, Edwards should leave the stadium with his chin up as he continues to roll in the second half of the 2020-21 NBA season. This is Edwards' second 40-point evening this season and has now tied his career-high of 42 while his eight threes was a career-best.

Since getting the starting nod late in January, the Georgia-native has been a man on a mission. The rook has been rather impressive and has been the best rookie these past few months. Although LaMelo Ball looked like he'd run away with the ROTY award before his injury, Edwards' rookie stint is something the Wolves franchise can be excited about as they continue to rebuild around Karl-Anthony Towns and D'Angelo Russell. That's not a bad trio.

Hopefully, the Wolves can end this crazy season on a better note as they chalk up another losing season in the books.
