When Anthony Davis went down with an injury during the Minnesota Timberwolves' game against the Los Angeles Lakers, fans expected the game to be over. After all, the All-Star forward/center was killing them on both sides. However… the exact opposite happened: Davis continued to play through his injury, dominating the ‘Wolves en route to their win.

After the game, Rudy Gobert talked about his “act of mercy” on Anthony Davis that may have doomed the Timberwolves against the Lakers, per Jon Krawczynski. Here's his full thoughts on the matter, and you decide if what he's saying makes sense.

“Gobert said the mess as AD went down was turning point: “I had the ball in my hands and I could've went and dunked it, but AD was laying there. So I was like, that’s too ruthless, I’ll just pass it out. After that it was just turnover after turnover. It was just a tough stretch.””

After Davis' injury scare, the Lakers went on a massive run to put away the game in the third quarter. Part of that was the Timberwolves' inability to contain AD, who finished with 38 points and 17 rebounds for the night. Minnesota's turnover woes also didn't help them out. Gobert's post-game comments are just the icing on top of a terrible cake that Minny served up last night.

With how tightly-packed the Western Conference is, every win matters. The loss to the Lakers sent the Timberwolves down to the ninth spot. They still are in the Play-In Tournament, but if they stay in that position, their path gets unnecessarily tougher. Plus, they're in even more danger of missing the Play-In altogether.
