Derrick Rose will never return to his Most Valuable Player form but his breakout season this year is something to take notice of. The Minnesota Timberwolves guard has gone through several setbacks over the years, but a summer free of health concerns has apparently done wonders for him.

Take this moment against the Boston Celtics as an example.

Early in the shot clock, Derrick Rose whipped a crossover in front of Terry Rozier, only to change direction and elude Marcus Morris on his way to the basket.

Entering Saturday night's matchup, Derrick Rose held averages of 19.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 4.4 assists on an insane shooting line of 49 percent from the field, 48 percent from 3-point distance, and 85 percent behind the charity stripe.

Rose is doing all these in a reserved role for the Timberwolves, keeping the buzz alive on a potential Sixth Man of the Year trophy. Throughout the drama that engulfed Minnesota early in the season, Derrick Rose remained a constant as a reliable scorer and playmaker for Tom Thibodeau's squad.

It's a tall order for Rose Saturday night as he's matched up against one of the best at his position in the Celtics' Kyrie Irving. Then again, Derrick Rose's spirited play has taught everyone to not count out the Chicago native, erasing thoughts of his strong run being a fluke.
