Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry gave a shoutout to fans on Wednesday night after signing a lucrative extension with the team prior to the deadline.

Henry posted a simple message on his Instagram, saying, “Appreciate everybody for all the love today & the fans through the whole process.”

It was unknown whether Henry and the Titans would reach a long-term agreement ahead of Wednesday's deadline.

The Titans previously assigned the franchise tag to Henry after extending quarterback Ryan Tannehill, though both sides hinted they wanted to negotiate a new contract. Henry even said in January he wanted to be with the team for the rest of his career (via Erik Bacharach of the Tennessean):

“I'd love to be a Titan for the rest of my career,” Henry told USA Today Sports in January. “Love the organization, love the team, love everybody, love the fans and love the city.”

Indeed, Tennessee signed the 2019 rushing champion to a four-year, $50 million extension Wednesday, with over $25 million guaranteed.

Henry has asserted himself as one of the most imposing runners in football.

The former Alabama star rushed for 1,540 yards on 5.1 yards per carry, leading all running backs with 16 rushing touchdowns. Henry took his play to another level in the playoffs, rushing for 446 yards and two touchdowns during Tennessee's surprising run to the AFC title game.

Henry has now rushed for at least 1,000 yards with 12 rushing touchdowns in each of the last two seasons. His combination of power and explosiveness makes him a threat to break a big run at the drop of the hat.

Titans fans hope there will be plenty of big runs in store for their star back, and possibly a Lombardi Trophy in the near future.
