Through his first two seasons in the NFL, Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry has shown flashes of potential to be a legitimate starter.

Former Titans great Eddie George sees much more than that as he recently told Cameron Wolfe of ESPN that he believes Henry has the potential to be an MVP-caliber player.

“He has the ability to lead the league in rushing. I think he has the ability to be the league MVP,” said Eddie George, the Titans/Oilers' all-time leading rusher. “The sky is the limit. We’re scratching the surface in what he can do. The more opportunities he gets, the better he gets.

“I have no question that Derrick can be a 1,500-1,800-yard type of running back when he gets the opportunities.”

Henry certainly put that on full display against the Kansas City Chiefs in the comeback win in the AFC Wild Card last Saturday rushing for a career-high 156 yards on 23 carries with a touchdown while also hauling in two catches for 35 yards. He has been able to remain quite productive despite having split carry duties with DeMarco Murray over the last two seasons as he was able to post a career-best 744 rushing yards and five touchdowns this year.

He will have another opportunity to show just that against the New England Patriots on Saturday night in the divisional round matchup with Murray out once again due to a leg injury. Henry has demonstrated the ability to be a major factor in both facets of the offense as a runner and receiver out of the backfield.

The 24-year-old could certainly be in line to receive the primary starter duties, especially after Murray took a significant step back this season after a strong 2016 campaign posting a career-low 659 rushing yards on just 3.6 yards per carry in 15 games played.

In fact, he only recorded more than 100 yards once while failing to break 70 yards in every other game. What should also be taken into consideration is that he only has two remaining on his four-year, $25.2 million deal that will pay him a combined $13 million.

All of this could lead up to an intriguing offseason for the Titans where there could be some major changes in the backfield. In the meantime, the focus is solely on upending the defending champions on Saturday night.
