The 2015 NFL Draft boasted two bonafide future franchise quarterbacks in Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota. However, it appears choosing between the two was not as difficult as some may have assumed.

Former Titans director of scouting Blake Beddingfield was among those in the Titans front office at the time. He said during an appearance on 104.5 The Zone that Mariota was the easy choice over Winston, via Yahoo Sports:

“Picking Mariota was “an easy choice at that time,” Beddingfield said.

Beddingfield's comments are likely a reflection of how he feels about Winston. He could be indicating that Tampa Bay made the wrong choice considering they have the first overall pick. As a result, Mariota ultimately landed on Tennessee's lap.

It may seem like Beddingfield is taking advantage of the timing of things given the recent news of Winston's three-game suspension to start the 2018 NFL season. However, he has actually mentioned much of the same ever since the two entered the NFL. That said, it could have more to do with their character off the field than on it.

This is not the first time Winston has had to deal with issues stemming from allegations of sexual abuse. Meanwhile, Mariota has become what every team wants from their franchise quarterback. More importantly, the latter has managed to take his team to the playoffs and was even able to win a game.

Of course, Winston has been impressive at times in his own right. Unfortunately, his troubles on and off the field have begun to coincide.
