Tennessee Titans cornerback Malcolm Butler has sustained a broken wrist in the AFC South team's Sunday loss on the road to the Carolina Panthers, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The 29-year-old one-time Pro-Bowl defensive back is in his second season with the Titans and has been a crucial part of the team's secondary. Butler has made two interceptions this season for Tennessee along with 32 combined tackles while starting at corner in every game.

It's unclear what the timeline is for Butler's recovery or if he can return to the gridiron before the end of the season. After the loss in Charlotte, North Carolina, the Titans return home to host the Kansas City Chiefs—who could be getting last year's NFL MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes under center again after a two-week absence caused by an injury to his knee.

The Chiefs won in their Week 9 matchup at home against the Minnesota Vikings on a last-second, game-winning field goal from kicker Harrison Butker.

Meanwhile, the Titans leave Carolina after having no answer for their star rusher Christian McCaffrey, who scored three touchdowns on the day and ran for 146 yards. The Panthers' substitute signal-caller for Cam Newton is Kyle Allen, who is 5-1 as the team's starter.

Following the Week 10 bout with the Chiefs, the Titans have their bye week, after which they should have more intel into Butler's injury and possible return this season. Butler won two Super Bowls with the New England Patriots in his four-year tenure after they signed him as an undrafted free agent out of West Alabama in 2014.

As a free agency, Butler signed a five-year deal with Tennessee before the 2018 season, so no matter what happens the rest of the season with his wrist injury, the 5-foot-11 cornerback will likely suit up again in the near future for the Titans.
