Marcus Mariota has a big season ahead of him. The Tennessee Titans quarterback is heading into the final year of his rookie contract, and he needs to convince the team he's the longterm answer at the position. Mariota has never had the best weapons during his time in the league, and often has had an inconsistent group of pass-catchers.

Interestingly, there's one position with which Mariota seems to thrive. The folks over at Pro Football Focus shared an interesting stat from 2018 that highlights one of Mariota's strengths.

Mariota had the league's second-highest passer rating when targeting tight ends last season. That might come as somewhat of a surprise to Titans fans, since the team didn't get too much out of the position last year. But it's a welcome sign, and hopefully can lead to big things with Delanie Walker back at full strength in 2019.

Walker, usually one of the league's top tight ends, went down with an ankle injury in Week 1 and missed the rest of the season. Jonnu Smith was tasked with replacing him, but he ended up finishing with just 258 yards and three touchdowns.

Walker is 34 now, but hopefully still has something left in the tank. Mariota has been changing offensive coordinators seemingly every year now, and he'll have another new one in 2019 after Matt LaFleur left for the Packers. The Titans traded for Ryan Tannehill this offseason, which seemed to suggest they might not be completely sold on Mariota.

Mariota has struggled with various injury issues since entering the pro ranks, and elbow issues plagued him last year. If he's going to have the year everyone is hoping for in 2019, the Titans would be well-served by letting him throw to tight ends more.
