The Tennessee Titans had a fairly stout defense last season, but that group is due for an overhaul.

Tennessee traded away former franchise staple Jurrell Casey, and cornerback Logan Ryan is currently a free agent. However, the Titans appear to be going after one of the biggest free-agent stars on the market: defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.

Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune reported the Titans are among the teams “believed” to have offered Clowney a contract:

Seattle began Thursday the way it began Wednesday, Tuesday, the week, the month—heck, the offseason: waiting for Clowney to decide if he wants to stay or go. The three-time Pro Bowl edge rusher has been weighing offers from multiple teams, believed to include the New York Jets and Tennessee Titans, in addition to the Seahawks.

Dianna Russini of ESPN previously reported Clowney was looking for around $20 million in annual average value.

The Titans can afford to make Clowney that offer if they so choose. Even after signing quarterback Ryan Tannehill to a massive extension, the Titans still have over $37 million in salary cap funds, according to Over The Cap.

Clowney dealt with some injuries as a member of the Seattle Seahawks last season, but he still managed to be productive. The 27-year-old ranked sixth in football with four forced fumbles, also adding a pair of fumble recoveries and an interception. Clowney had two defensive touchdowns for good measure.

This would be an aggressive play for the Titans, though it might be worth it to invest in another edge defender to supplement their secondary.
