After a solid start to his MMA career, Greg Hardy's UFC stint is coming to a close. The former Carolina Panthers defensive end announced that Dana White's company has declined to re-sign him after his contract terminated. (via Ari Meirov)

Hardy's UFC career started out pretty well, as he earned a solid 7-2-1 record in his first ten fights. However, his last few showings have been abysmal, as the talent level seems to have caught up to him. His latest bout, in fact, was an embarrassing first-round TKO that saw Hardy get beat up by Sergey Spivak rather quickly.

Hardy has been a rather controversial figure in the UFC scene, mainly due to his status as a former NFL star. Hardy, however, was adamant that he would be kept around by the organization, saying back in January that his fights bring a lot of fans to the stadium.

“My cards do big numbers, I’m always on big cards, I’m always entertaining the crap out of the crowds,” Hardy said to BJPENN.com. “This is my last contract fight and they are putting me in there with Aleksei. We aren’t picking and choosing, we are fighting fighters and are making our way up.”

Unfortunately for Hardy, his time in the UFC ring has come to a close. It remains to be seen whether Hardy will continue fighting for other MMA organizations or if he'll retire for good. A potential return to the NFL could also be in the cards, though considering his history there, no team might not want him back.
