Julianna Pena shocked the UFC world with her upset victory over former reigning champion Amanda Nunes in December. Most experts and fans alike projected a Nunes win, but Pena established herself as a true star in the sport with her victory via submission. Dana White recently announced that Pena and Nunes will fight in a rematch on July 30th.

Julianna Pena recently shared why she felt White and UFC was pulling for Nunes in their original bout.

“I think he has,” Pena said in response to whether Dana White has fully bought into Julianna Pena. “But I also think that he’s a little bit bummed that his little Golden Goose got tapped out. Of course it’s so much better for them financially to have this girl who’s never been beaten in seven years, never been tapped out, never lost and has belts in two weight classes… She’s fought the who’s who of the division. She’s slayed all those giants, you know?”

Pena continued.

“So, of course they’re not thinking I have a chance. And they want her to win because it looks better for the promotion, looks better for the UFC. They weren’t expecting me to win. I literally looked at them after the fight and all of their jaws are to the floor… I was like ‘sorry to ruin your day guys.’ It’s not anything that’s rigged by any means so it’s up to the individual.”

Amanda Nunes will aim to earn her revenge over Julianna Pena in their upcoming UFC bout in July.
