Carla Esparza let it be known after UFC 268 that she wanted the next title shot against Rose Namajunas. The fight would be a rematch from 2014 when Esparza beat her via submission in the third round.
Both fighters have evolved to the point where the first fight seems irrelevant. They have grown up in the UFC with each woman having some big wins over excellent competition.
UFC 268 saw Rose Namajunas cement her place as champion of the strawweight division. She won the bout via split decision after putting on an excellent performance.
The strawweight division is a competitive one and is filled with top contenders after UFC 268. Carla Esparza is currently considered the top contender after going on a five-fight win streak that includes wins over Marina Rodriguez and Michelle Waterson.
Carla Esparza wrote Rose Namajunas on Instagram at the conclusion of UFC 268 in hopes of securing the next title shot. The message was nothing but respect from the former champion.

“Congratulations Rose Namajunas on a fantastic victory!” Esparza wrote on Instagram. “Inspiring to so many and I am truly happy for you. Fate had us cross paths when we created this division and I’m proud that seven years later we are both still here at the top of it.
“This is not a call out or anything disrespectful. This is genuine respect. You deserve time to celebrate and enjoy this accomplishment. It will be an honor to run this back when you are ready.”
It will be tricky for Carla Esparza to get the next title shot as it appears Dana White isn't necessarily on board. Rose Namajunas' return following UFC 268 will paint a clearer picture.
