Chatri Sityodtong is the CEO of ONE Championship and is not afraid to make outrageous takes. Recently, he took aim at UFC champion Francis Ngannou and made quite the bonkers declaration and the internet went off.
Chatri Sityodtong has a lot of faith in ONE Championship fighters and he made quite the statement regarding UFC champion Francis Ngannou. Sityodtong spoke about it in a post-fight press conference via South China Morning Post.
“I like Francis Ngannou but I think our heavyweights would smoke him,” Sityodtong said about the UFC champion.
“He’s just not a complete fighter. For sure, if you ask any expert martial artist, you look at [ONE interim heavyweight champ] Anatoly Malykhin – Russian national pedigree wrestler, dynamite in his hands. Much faster than Francis, much better ground game, black-belt level.
“He was also a submission champion in Europe. You look at [ONE heavyweight champ] Arjan Bhullar, wrestling, boxing. Francis is not very impressive on the ground. He’s got big, looping punches, he’s not as technical of a boxer as Anatoly or even Arjan.”
Francis Ngannou is largely considered the best heavyweight in MMA. His time in the UFC has been very dominant and he has scored huge knockouts over many big names.
ONE Championship does have very good heavyweights but many have begun arguing the merits of Chatri Sityodtong's comments. Names like Brandon Vera and Arjan Bhullar have been mentioned in the conversation with UFC champion Francis Ngannou. It will be interesting to see how Ngannou and even Dana White react to the comments from the ONE Championship CEO.
