Raquel Pennington needed an opponent to step in at the last minute to replace Julia Avila at UFC Vegas 45. Macy Chiasson was the one to step in and fill in for her.

The two agreed to move the fight up a weight class to 145 since it would be tough for Macy Chiasson to make 135 on short notice. Chiasson would come in at 148.5 and the UFC fight was in jeopardy for a short time.

Raquel Pennington found herself very frustrated, especially after they agreed to move up a weight class. UFC Vegas 45 still ended well for Pennington as she was able to lock up the submission.

“I was super frustrated because we went up a whole new division (to 145),” told media including MMAJunkie. “I understand how it feels to take a last-minute fight, but as professionals, this is our job. Our job is to make weight. Our job is to go out and perform. … The 145-pound weight class, and then you can’t even make that (instead of 135)? I went through a bunch of emotions yesterday. I was pretty frustrated. But at the end of the day, it’s something you can’t control.”

The submission was a very good one for Raquel Pennington as she was able to lock up the guillotine choke at UFC Vegas 45. The move pushed her to 3-0 in the past fights three fights.

“We watched some film. My coaches broke her down, I broke her down, (and) she came out and did exactly what we’ve seen from her. I actually expected her to come out a lot more aggressive. … It’s exciting (to be the first person to finish Chiasson). To stop anybody is exciting. But most importantly, I’m starting to feel like myself again.”

Raquel Pennington will be looking for a big 2022 to cap off a big year in the UFC. The bantamweight will also be hoping her future opponents make weight.
