UFC 269 is starting to take shape. UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira is looking very likely to take on Dustin Poirier on the December 11 event. The matchup was first reported by MMAFighting.

Currently, neither man has signed a contract, they are currently in a verbal agreement. Contracts will need to be signed before the bout becomes official for UFC 269.

questions of what was next for Poirier had been speculating for some time. There was his trilogy with Conor McGregor that put his title shot on hold as he opted to finish things up with the Irishman rather than go for the title.

The move was one that paid off as Poirier now holds two wins over McGregor and gets to fight for the title at UFC 269. Poirier has recently become a fan favorite so a title win could boost him into a megastar.

Charles Oliviera became the lightweight champion when he defeated Michael Chandler by TKO at UFC 262. He overcame a tough round one to put away the former Bellator lightweight champion.

The belt became vacated when former champion Khabib Nurmagomedov shockingly retired in October 2020 after defeating Justin Gaethje. Many attempts had been made for him to return, but ultimately they were forced to move on.

UFC 269 will mark the first title defense since Nurmagomedov retired. Oliveira will be given the opportunity to prove he is the best lightweight on the planet.

UFC 269 currently does not have a location. The event does have a date of December 11 and is expected to have more fights announced in the near future.
