The UFC is targeting a Dustin PoirierConor McGregor trilogy for this summer.

President Dana White said Friday the company will try to make the fight since ‘The Diamond” and the “Notorious One” both seem to want it:

“When you've got two guys who want the trilogy as bad as those two do, you make it happen!” White said, via UFC on BT Sport.

Conor McGregor won the first bout between the two in 2014 when both fighters were still at flyweight. Poirier had his hand raised in the second bout last month, knocking McGregor out in the second round after brutal leg kicks in the first.

Both men's paths have led to this point. It was McGregor's victory over Poirier that really elevated him to superstar status, as he would go on to win the featherweight belt before becoming the first two-division champion in company history.

The loss actually worked in Poirier's favor, as well. He moved up to lightweight and began a phenomenal stretch that saw him beat the likes of Justin Gaethje, Eddy Alvarez and Max Holloway en route to being crowned interim lightweight champion. Poirier failed to unify the belts against undefeated and undisputed champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, but he beat top contender Dan Hooker before getting the best of McGregor in the rematch.

Nurmagomedov figures into the picture here, as well. He retired after beating Gaethje to retain his title in October, but White has been desperate to lure him out of retirement.

If Nurmagomedov remains retired, however, there is a chance the trilogy bout between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor is for what would be the vacant lightweight title.
