Trade season is just about to set the NBA ablaze with the February deadline just looming right around the corner. One of the teams expected to make waves ahead of the deadline is the Atlanta Hawks, who are reportedly looking to re-tool around franchise star Trae Young ahead of next season.

The Hawks expected to compete this season and return closer to their standing as a legitimate playoff team. But they currently find themselves at 10th in the Eastern Conference standings with a 17-23 record.

Likewise, Atlanta is reportedly ready to split up the backcourt of Trae Young and Dejounte Murray as the pairing just hasn't panned out the way the Hawks expected. Murray has floated around as one of the hotter commodities in the market, with several teams like the Lakers, Knicks, and Warriors being linked to the former All-Star guard.

The Hawks have identified Young along with rising star forward Jalen Johnson as untouchable. Johnson has been a revelation for Atlanta this season, while Young remains the foundational piece the Hawks want to build their franchise around.

However, there are rumblings that the Hawks could opt to just hit the reset button entirely and trade Young to acquire a boatload of draft assets to kickstart a rebuild. In relation to those rumors, Matt Moore of Action Network said that Young and his camp would be reportedly open to a move to the San Antonio Spurs to form a dynamic pairing with super rookie Victor Wembanyama.

Now, these are just rumors. But it might be a good idea to have some fun and run away with unrealistic Trae Young trade ideas should the Hawks want to go nuclear.

Trae Young to San Antonio Spurs

Of course, the first trade idea would involve what sparked the rumors in the first place — Trae Young to the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs could go all in and pair Young with Victor Wembanyama. By saying all in, this entails sending San Antonio a package centered around the supposedly two best building blocks the Spurs have right now around Wemby: Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson.

San Antonio would also send a boatload of picks to the Spurs as they fully commit to building another potential dynasty with Wemby and Young. As it stands, the Spurs have 34 picks until 2030. 15 of them are in the first round. They also have Atlanta's unprotected first rounders in 2025 and 2027 and have the rights to a pick swap with the Hawks in 2026.

The Spurs could send back Atlanta its picks so that the Hawks will regain control of their assets. They could also add some more draft capital to entice the Hawks to part ways with their franchise superstar.

If the picks aren't enough, the Hawks could also opt to have the Spurs include some other young guys like Jeremy Sochan and Malaki Branham. Those guys would be terrific projects to develop as Atlanta tanks away the next few seasons.

As for the Spurs, they shouldn't hesitate in going all in for Young, in case the Hawks lose their minds actually make him available in trades. Young is still just 25 years old and has been one of the most electric point guards in the NBA.

Pairing him and Wemby would make them a force in the Western Conference over the next decade. Likewise, Young's elite playmaking could completely unlock Wembanyama's game. Just imagine the pick-and-roll game between those two. It could almost be as deadly as the Dame-Giannis pick-and-roll in Milwaukee.

Trae Young to the Miami Heat

Despite Atlanta's commitment to him, Young has still found himself in trade rumors, especially over the last couple of years. One team that has been floated around as a potential destination for Trae Young is the reigning Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat.

Miami has been searching for another star to pair with Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. The team failed in its pursuit of Damian Lillard in the offseason and has also been linked as a potential destination for Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell, who is a little more submerged in trade rumors than Young is currently.

Nonetheless, if the Hawks make Ice Trae available, the Heat should definitely get in the race for the Young sweepstakes. They have a solid young guy in Tyler Herro, who could be the centerpiece of the deal, if the Hawks want him.

Perhaps Atlanta could go completely nuts and trade Young for a package Kyle Lowry, Caleb Martin, and Nikola Jovic along with two first round picks. Miami still has its first rounders from 2026 to 2030, so it could either trade the 2027 and 2029, or the 2028 and 2030 picks, to the Hawks.

Lowry is on an expiring deal. Not only would Atlanta hit the reset button on the roster, they would also do so on their salary books. Martin is also a guy they could flip to a contender to gain more assets, while Jovic could be a nice development project they can take on.

Adding Young to the reigning Eastern Conference champs would keep them in step or even get them past the likes of the Bucks, Celtics, and Sixers. The Heat should instantly become top favorites in the East should they land
