The Georgia Bulldogs managed to get through a sloppily played game to defeat the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturday.

It was an eventful game that changes the direction for both programs moving forward. Georgia will be looking to compete in the SEC behind head coach Kirby Smart, as the Irish are now in another iffy situation under Brian Kelly.

While Kelly spent his postgame berating a reporter over a somewhat silly question, Smart used the victory to make an announcement. The sort that changes a young person's life forever.

This young person is Georgia's kicker, Rodrigo Blankenship.

Blankenship was actually placed on scholarship by Georgia on Friday. Smart, however, played this one well by holding off until after the game to reveal the news to the rest of the team.

The cynic in all of us has to wonder how, or even if, Smart would have made the announcement had the Bulldogs lost. Given the fact that the coach knew about this on Friday, but held off the announcement until after the Notre Dame game, it does lend some insight into the idea that he felt pretty confident his guys would beat the Fighting Irish.

Blankenship converted two of three field goal tries against the Irish and has made three of four tries this season. Last season, Blankenship successfully kicked 14 of his 18 field goal attempts for three points.

College sports can often be not too pretty to deal with. Not with grown adults tweeting at kids to tell them how awful they are. Moments like that one Georgia provided, though, does offer a glimmer of hope for a better tomorrow.
