The Minnesota Vikings have had kicking issues the past couple of seasons. Head coach, Mike Zimmer has expressed a desire to hire a kicking coach—Dan Bailey approved of the idea.

According to Courtney Cronin of ESPN, Zimmer stated he was interested in hiring a kicking coach. Bailey was part of a conference call with Cronin and said: “another set of eyes is not going to hurt”.

The Vikings kicker also said he had a “positive experience” when he had Chris Boniol as a kicking consultant with the Dallas Cowboys. During his time with the Cowboys, Bailey nailed 88.2% of his field goals.

In 2018—his only year with the Vikings—Bailey made only 75% of his field goals. More notably, Bailey made only four of his nine attempts from 40-49 yards.

At one point, Bailey was one of the best kickers in the NFL along with Justin Tucker. Tucker is still going strong with the Baltimore Ravens but Bailey is struggling to return to his past form.

In 2018, Bailey ranked 20th in the NFL with just 21 field goals made. So why is the Vikings kicker struggling after being one of the best in the NFL?

Bailey suffered an injury in 2017 with the Cowboys but it's unknown if that injury is still lingering with the veteran kicker. Regardless, bringing in a kicking consultant could help Bailey return to being a high-level kicker.

Zimmer realizes there's an issue with the kicking and it needs to be solved in 2019.

We could see a rejuvenated Bailey in the upcoming season.
