Despite not getting the love he deserves from the Los Angeles Lakers, the man known as The Logo, is plenty wanted by his current franchise, the Golden State Warriors.

Co-owner Joe Lacob spoke about Jerry West‘s consultant role and how the team really wants him back next season with his blunt, sure-fire basketball input.

“We want him back,” Lacob told Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News. “We love him. He's been a great contributor to the organization, someone I consider a personal friend as well. We would love him back, and we've made that known.”

The all-time great turns 79-years-old today, and will have all the ball on his court if he chooses to remain with the team.

West was previously known to have a deep interest in a role with the developing Lakers, but the sense coming from the organization was that they don't need him.

The Logo has a storied career with the purple and gold, having played for the Lakers from 1960-74 and ran the team as a general manager from 1982-2000.

The West Virginia native has won eight NBA titles as a player and front office executive and is one of the most renowned basketball minds in the game. The Warriors have surely benefitted from his unfiltered opinions and ability to put things bluntly and being forward with other executives — a lost art to those who constantly look out for their best interest and try not to rub others the wrong way.
