Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr says there is “a chance” that newly minted wing Andrew Wiggins makes his Warriors debut on Saturday against the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Nick Friedell of ESPN.

Wiggins still has to pass his physical and is flying into San Francisco on Friday night.

The Warriors acquired Wiggins just ahead of the Thursday trade deadline, sending D'Angelo Russell to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange. Golden State also picked up a couple of draft picks in the deal, one of which is a top-three protected 2020 first-rounder.

In 42 games this season, Wiggins is averaging 22.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists over 34.6 minutes per game while shooting 44.4 percent from the floor, 33.1 percent from 3-point range and 72 percent from the free-throw line.

The soon-to-be-25-year-old, who played his collegiate basketball at the University of Kansas, was originally selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the first overall pick of the 2014 NBA Draft. He was then traded to the Timberwolves for Kevin Love later that summer.

In five-plus seasons in Minnesota, Wiggins was a major disappointment.

While he averaged over 20 points per game three times (including this season), his efficiency left a lot to be desired, as he owns a career true shooting percentage of 52.1 percent. He also lays claim to an average of .045 Win Shares per 48 minutes, indicating that he did not provide a ton of value for the Wolves when he was on the court.

But perhaps a change of scenery is all Wiggins needs.

The Toronto native is in the second year of a five-year, $147.7 million contract.
